Transforming a downtown 1945 Cottage

I’ve decided to bring to you a different story, other than vignettes. I had the pleasure of being invited to take a tour of a friend’s house that is in the transformation stages of remodeling. The home has begun the design phases, but what a gem it is going to turn out to be.

I don’t know about you, but I like a really great remodel!! Even though at first, sometimes the vision is not quite there, as the construction is starting to begin, things start to fall into place visually.

These pictures I’ve shared, are what is to transpire over the next few months.

Their plan is keeping the historic charm of the home by saving the columns, and refinishing the original hardwood flooring, but adding modern features and touches, such as simple trim work, clean lines, and light color combinations.

Just look at the beautiful custom tile work for the kitchen. And did you notice the beautiful blue tile? It looks like pottery! Gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it installed. All of the custom tile work is installed by Chris Long, a master craftsman in custom tile design.

Most importantly, they want

functionality and efficiency!!

Another feature very detailed in the design work, is all of the utilization of storage space used throughout the house.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, and maybe it will inspire, and give you ideas of what creative ways you can add in your home.

This story will continue, when I get to take you on the completed restored tour.

And give you an introduction to the owners of the house, as well as the craftsmen that helped in the transformation and design of the home.

Have a great day

Laurie Walker
